CANVAS
Through the Years
2007
Our Founding
Incorporated in Sep 2007, founder Jami Peyton picked the name “Canvas” as she hoped to use her same passion and energy in the world of engineering and defense as she had in her art.
2008
In January 2008, Canvas obtained our first contract supporting the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Sensors directorate’s mission to combine all X-Band radars into one program office with common software platforms.
Our First Contract
Moved to Downtown Huntsville
With 15 employees, we selected an office space in Downtown Huntsville. With half of our employees residing in Historically Underutilized Business Zones, we decided to apply for HUBZone certification through the SBA.
2010
New Opportunities
We grew our workforce, contract vehicles and expanded our capabilities to include programmatic services. We extended our footprint outside of Huntsville and into Alaska, Colorado, and Utah.
2011
2013
Welcome Millennials
In 2013, our workforce demographic changed with the addition of millennials. During this year, we kicked off our tuition reimbursement program, and to date 95% of our millennial workforce has utilized this program.
2015
Expanded Our Capabilities
By 2015, Canvas had 70 employees and over 20 active contracts for a diverse set of customers. We acquired a business providing Canvas with contract vehicles and a history in programmatic support with a technical discipline.
Celebrated 10 Years
In 2017, Canvas celebrated 10 amazing years of business. Canvas moved our corporate office to its current location in the historic Huntsville Times building in downtown Huntsville and made the top contender list for Best Places to Work.
2017
Won the Big Awards
In 2018, we were thrilled to not only win Government Contracting Technology Company of the Year but also Women-Owned Small Business of the Year. To date, Canvas is the only company to win these two categories in one night!
2018
2019
Technical Innovation
In 2019, Canvas opened Area 220, our Innovation Lab, launched the employee-giving fund, Be The Good, and added Biomedical Engineering and Technology and Product Development to our capabilities.
2020
Rising to the Challenge
During 2020, our employees demonstrated their resilience and innovative nature to help us navigate working remotely. 2020 presented challenges, but our leadership and employees collaborated and worked together to help us achieve a record-breaking year.
The Future is Ours
In 2022, Canvas committed to growing our technical footprint with new customers. We focused on providing our employees with the very best, delivering superior results for our customers and maintaining our strong family-like culture.
